At 07:34 on Monday 10 August 2026, the ground under Chocó moved for about two minutes. Magnitude 7.4, 110 kilometres down, deep enough that half of Colombia felt it. So did parts of Ecuador and Panama.
Eight days on, the count stands at 26,945 homes destroyed, 2,838 schools and 285 health centres damaged, and 120,328 families displaced across 15 departments. In Sipí, Chocó, the mayor reports 260 homes flattened and 300 more damaged in a town of 4,826 people that armed groups and landmines had already cut off. 143 people are still missing.

Where this money goes
450 municipalities reported damage. Pereira, Armenia, Cali and every town around them are living through the same catastrophe, they need everything they are getting, and nothing on this page argues they should get less. We are one small record label with one small amount of money. The only question in front of us is where that particular amount does the most.

The cities have highways, airports, hospitals and national attention, and the convoys are already moving along all four. That is how it should work. It is where the density is, and it is where the most people can be reached fastest. A big response going to the places a big response can actually reach is not a failure of anything.

The epicentre was in Chocó, the roads in are under landslides, and it is the poorest department in the country. The 2018 census missed a fifth of its rural population, so even a fair split worked out per registered head quietly shortchanges the towns nearest to where this started. Small money can go where big logistics cannot.
So: Chocó first, because that is where help this size changes the most.
And not Chocó only. If our partners can reach a family in Risaralda or Valle del Cauca that nobody else has got to, we will send help there too, and it will show up in the ledger with everything else. We are not going to turn down a way to help somebody because they live outside a department we named in August.
What we will not do is quietly change where the money goes without telling you. Every recipient gets published before the transfer, with the receipt.
The evidence
These are structural figures, not casualty figures. We do not publish a death toll on this page. The reported count ran from 111 to 294 inside eight days, and a number that unstable has no business sitting on a page that is asking you for money. The three below will still be true next year.
Eight days in, the consolidated national count reached 450 municipalities across 15 departments. Risaralda. Valle del Cauca. Quindío. Chocó. Anyone telling you this is one department’s emergency has not read the report. The 48-hour figure was a third of this, because assessors could not reach most of it while the landslides still had the roads shut.
Roughly one in three people in Chocó were living in multidimensional poverty before the ground moved, against about one in eight nationally. The same dollar does more there. And there is further to fall if it never arrives.
The 2018 census missed a fifth of rural and dispersed Chocó, against 7% of its municipal centres. This is the quiet one. Aid gets allocated per registered head, so the towns closest to the epicentre are the ones most likely to come up short in the arithmetic that decides who gets helped. Nobody has to be neglecting them for that to happen.

We are a record label. We know how to make a record and we have no idea how to rebuild a house, so the money goes to people who do. These are the organizations we are working through today. The list is open: as more comes in, more names show up here, and each one gets published before a transfer rather than after it.
20 years building and improving housing for families in Colombia. Prefabricated concrete houses with the Alcaldía de Cartagena in Pasacaballos, repairs to schools and community spaces, emergency supplies. They publish an annual report every year, which is rarer than it should be, and it is most of why they are our main channel.
A platform that routes a donation to one named person. If an organization cannot get to someone in time, we might send help this way instead. It is smaller and faster, and it cannot be audited the way a foundation can, which is exactly why we label it differently here.
